Electrical Contractors’ Association(ECA)

The ECA has been a driving force in the electrical engineering and building services industry since its formation in 1901. Today, many organisations that are involved in improving industry standards and embracing positive change do so as a direct result of ECA involvement or alternatively engage with the ECA on an ongoing basis.

ECA Registered Members

All ECA Registered Members are required to demonstrate their technical competence on joining the Association and at regular intervals thereafter. The benchmark used by the Association for demonstrating that competence is the Electrotechnical Assessment Scheme (EAS), maintained and published by the Institution of Engineering and Technology. (IET). Registered Members are required to demonstrate their technical competence in one of two ways:
  • Through the UKAS accredited ECA Membership Certification Scheme
  • Through a suitable third party, such as NICEIC, under the ‘Deemed to Satisfy’ scheme.

ECA Guarantee of Work Scheme

The Guarantee of Work Scheme automatically guarantees all ECA Registered Members’ work, subject to terms and conditions, and removes the need for the contractor to enter into an insurance contract with customers. The guarantee is Part P and TrustMark compliant and covers completed contracts in any calendar year up to a value of £50,000 (including VAT) and £100,000 (including VAT) for multiple contracts for the same customer.

ECA Warranty

The Warranty covers work with a contract price in excess of £50,000 and to a limit in accordance with Registered Members’ contract value limit, which is stated on each firm’s certificate.

ECA Bond

Subject to terms and conditions of the scheme, the ECA Bond provides customers with an assurance that if the contractor is terminated for a specified reason, such as insolvency, the additional cost of work completion will be met by the insurer to a maximum limit of £100,000 or 10 per cent of the contract value shown on the certificate.
